Where do medicinal (opiate) narcotics come
from?
The key to it all
is the poppy, technically known as papaverum
somniferens. From
this beautiful plant the world sources most of the narcotics
that help relieve human pain and suffering.
There are two basic extraction processes.
One harvests opium directly from the poppy.
The other takes the poppy head and its stems and leaves
and extracts everything it can into water.
The extract is then concentrated to produce what is known
as Concentrate of Poppy Straw or cps. The active pharmaceutical ingredients that become medicines
come from either the opium or the cps.
